The Agriculture Minister Costas Kadis said, “Cyprus has the cleanest bathing waters across Europe”.
According to the EU-wide report published on Monday, Cyprus emerged top in the bloc for the quality of its bathing waters. The EU-wide report showed that 99.1% of bathing waters on the island were excellent quality. Austria followed in second place with 98.5%, Malta with 97.7% and Greece with 95.7%.
Cyprus also scored 99.1% in 2018, from 97.3 % in 2017. The report tracks the water quality at more than 21,000 bathing sites across Europe each season. In 2019, there were 113 bathing waters reported in Cyprus of which 112 or 99.1%, were classed as excellent. One was not classified. A total of 999 samples were tested.
As per Agriculture Minister Costas Kadis statement, “There is a direct correlation between the quality of bathing water and tourism, and therefore the excellent results are very important not only for the health of bathers and the environment but also the economy of Cyprus, which is linked to the quality of our sea and tourism activity.”
Cyprus remains the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea with impeccable quality of crystal clear waters.
